The first of a trilogy of 90s westerns for Walter Hill (followed by "Wild Bill" and "Last Man Standing") and part of a cycle of revisionist westerns following "Unforgiven", this thoughtful, elegiac, and emotional western challenges the myths of the West and provides a sympathetic portrayal of Native resistance against white manifest destiny. Featuring a stacked cast including Jason Patric, Gene Hackman, Robert Duvall, Matt Damon, Rodney A. Grant, Steve Reevis, and a striking Wes Studi as Geronimo, as well as another great score by frequent Hill collaborator Ry Cooder.
