"Killing Zoe"

(1993)

Director: Roger Avary

Director of Photography: Tom Richmond

A gritty, dirty, seedy, drug-fueled crime caper from the dawn of independent cinema of the '90s. Starring Eric Stoltz, Julie Delpy, and an unhinged Jean-Hugues Anglade, the film is full of queasy cinematography, kinetic electronic music, and pulpy characters from the school of Tarantino. Unfortunately, the film descends into empty ultra violence from the mind of a movie geek trying to be cool rather than someone who has experienced any kind of tension and has something to say about it. Still, great film. Roger Avary has style and talent to burn. Too bad he wasn't able to capitalize off this promising first film and build a lasting, memorable career.

Bought at Videomatica.
